The Wandering Medievalist
A wee bit more about me, then?
First and foremost, I am an Ameri-Scot, a new term that I have adopted – or possibly made up – which means that I was born in the USA (Boston to be specific as we Americans always are) but I moved to Scotland for university and never went back. I have now lived here more than half my life, so my sentiments, spelling, accent and associations all exist somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic. Before I left I promised my mother that I wouldn’t fall in love and stay here. I lied.
I have always had creative tendencies – drawing, watercolour, pastels for a while – but at heart I am a writer. As a teen I planned to be a writer, until history ‘got in the way’. Perhaps in time I will gather the confidence to share some writing here; most of it is medieval, after all.
So, I am a writer, a photographer, and finally, a Medieval historian, though really I’m interested in anything that took place before 1500. I studied Medieval History for 10 years through three degrees and graduated with a PhD focussed on medieval royal marriage.
Also, I love to explore – call it hiking, walking, or wandering, there is no better way to experience the outdoors and all things history than under your own steam.
And that’s me, in a nutshell. There’s plenty more I’m sure I will share as time passes, but for now, this will do.
